TYLER — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats’ season came to a heartbreaking end Friday following a 3-2 overtime loss to the Frisco Panther Creek Lady Panthers in the Regional Semifinals at Earl Campbell Field at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Despite holding a lead for the majority of the game, a late goal forced overtime and the Lady Wildcats were bested in the extra period, leading to a loss.

The first half of the game didn’t feature much action early on. Both teams would have multiple scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalize on them.

Eventually, with 23:21 left in the half, the Lady Wildcats took the lead when Jolea Moore scored a goal, giving Sulphur Springs a 1-0 lead. That score held up to the end of the half, as the Lady Wildcats carried their lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Wildcats didn’t need long to extend their lead, as Moore scored her second goal of the game with 35:53 left in the half, extending their lead to 2-0.

Later on, the Lady Panthers got on the board with a goal at the 28:24 mark, trimming the score to 2-1. This would be followed by a long period of no scoring.

Then, late in the game, the Lady Panthers caught a break when they scored another goal with 2:12 left in the half, knotting the score up at 2-2. After no more goals were scored in regulation, the game went to overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams started out struggling to score. Then, with 3:44 left, Panther Creek scored a goal, taking a 3-2 lead. That score held up to the end of the period.

The second period didn’t see any scoring. With that, the game ended, as the Lady Panthers handed the Lady Wildcats a 3-2 loss.

With the loss, the Lady Wildcats’ season has come to an end. They end the season with an overall record of 24-4, finishing as undefeated district champions, Bi-District champions, Area champions, and Regional Semifinalists.

This would also go down as the last high school soccer game for nine seniors: Kylie Clarke, Zoe Crump, Kendall Ferrill, Beida Palomino, Annaston Price, Emma Romero, Addison Schubert, Haylee Shultz, and Anna Williams.

The Lady Wildcats will look to improve in the off-season and make a deeper playoff run next year.
