McFarlin launches three-run home run

BIRTHRIGHT — The North Hopkins Panthers picked up their third straight win Wednesday by shutting out the Miller Grove Hornets 18-0 at home. Throughout the game, the Panthers outplayed the Hornets at every opportunity and never looked back, leading to a big win.

The Hornets stepped up to the plate first, where they faced Kameron Jenkins on the mound. Jenkins would strike out the first two batters. After a single, another strikeout ended the Hornets’ turn.

The bottom of the second inning began with Isai Franco being walked. This was followed by Hudson McFarlin hitting a double.

Soon after, Franco scored on a steal of home, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Adin Godbolt was then walked.

On the next at-bat, Jenkins reached base on an error, and McFarlin scored, extending the Panthers’ lead to 2-0. After Griffen Arms walked, Godbolt scored on a steal of home, bringing the score to 3-0. Junior Reyes was walked next, loading up the bases.

Rhett Vaughn was walked on the following atbat, bringing Jenkins home and raising the score to 4-0. Three consecutive outs followed when AJ Horton struck out, Arms was caught stealing home, and Kasen Gammil struck out.

The Hornets were retired in order to start the second inning, as Jenkins recorded three consecutive strikeouts.

The bottom of the second inning began with Franco hitting a single. After McFarlin hit a pop fly ball for an out, Godbolt hit a single.

Jenkins would then hit an RBI single, bringing Franco home and extending the Panthers’ lead to 5-0. Arms would line out on the next at-bat.

Reyes then reached base on an error, and Godbolt scored, making the score 6-0. Jenkins scored soon after on a steal of home, bringing the score to 7-0. The inning then ended when Vaughn hit a pop fly ball for an out.

The Hornets once again went down in order during the top of the third inning following a pair of strikeouts and an out on a dropped third strike.

The bottom of the third inning began with Horton hitting a pop fly ball for an out. After Gammil walked, Franco grounded out.

The bases then loaded up when McFarlin and Godbolt walked. Jenkins was walked next, bringing Gammil home and bringing the score to 8-0.

Soon after, McFarlin scored on a steal of home, making the score 9-0. After Arms walked, Reyes hit a 2-RBI single, driving Godbolt and Jenkins home and raising the score to 11-0.

After Vaughn hit a single, Arms scored on a steal of home, making the score 12-0. This was followed by Horton hitting a single, loading the bases again.

Gammil was walked next, bringing Reyes home and making the score 130. Franco then hit a 2-RBI double, driving Vaughn and Horton home and bringing the score to 15-0.

On the next at-bat, McFarlin swatted a threerun home run, bringing Gammil and Franco home and building the score to 18-0. Though the Panthers gained two more runners when Godbolt hit a single and Jenkins walked, the inning ended when Arms struck out.

For the fourth inning, Godbolt relieved Jenkins on the mound. The fourth inning started with the Hornets gaining two runners on a hit by pitch and a single. From there, three straight outs followed on a pair of strikeouts and a pop out. With that, the game ended, as the Panthers finished off an 18-0 shutout win.

As a team, the Panthers batted 10 for 20 (.500) from the plate. Franco, Godbolt, and McFarlin led with two hits each, while Horton, Jenkins, Reyes, and Vaughn added one hit each.

Franco, Godbolt, Jenkins, and McFarlin all shared the title of leading scorer, scoring three runs each. Gammil scored two runs, while Arms, Horton, Reyes, and Vaughn added one run each.

Jenkins earned the win on the mound. Across three innings, he notched nine strikeouts and only allowed one hit. Godbolt pitched the final inning in relief, recording two strikeouts and conceding just one hit.

With the win, the Panthers are now 9-4 on the season. They resumed action Friday, welcoming the Saltillo Lions to North Hopkins High School.
