Jenkins pitches no-hitter

COMMERCE — The North Hopkins Panthers recorded their third consecutive win Thursday by shutting out the Cumby Trojans 20-0 at Commerce High School. Throughout the game, the Panthers dominated the game and never wavered, leading to a shutout.

The game was highlighted by pitcher Kameron Jenkins pitching a no-hitter.

The first inning saw the Panthers take command early on, as the defense quickly ended Cumby’s turn at the plate.

When the Panthers came to the plate, they exploded on offense. Conner McFarlin scored two runs, while Isai Franco, Jenkins, Adin Godbolt, Junior Reyes, Rhett Vaughn, Frank Valdez, and Kasen Gammil added one run each, giving the Panthers a 9-0 lead.

After the Trojans went down in order to start the second inning, the Panthers added six more runs on offense. Reyes, Vaughn, Valdez, Franco, McFarlin, and Jenkins all scored, as the Panthers’ lead now stood at 15-0.

The third inning saw the Panthers cap off the game. Vaughn, Valdez, Gammil, Franco, and Mc- Farlin all scored, as the Panthers wrapped up a 20-0 shutout victory.

As a team, the Panthers batted 16 for 21 (.762) from the plate. McFarlin led the way, going a perfect 4/4. Jenkins was right behind, going a perfect 3/3.

Godbolt, Reyes, and Vaughn tallied two hits each, while Gammil, Valdez, and Hagen Woosley added one hit each.

McFarlin was also the Panthers’ leading scorer with four runs. Franco, Valdez, and Vaughn would score three runs each. Gammil, Jenkins, and Reyes added two runs each, while Godbolt scored one run.

Jenkins pitched a no-hitter on the mound. In three innings, he struck out eight batters and only walked two.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 3-2 in district and 11-7 overall. They resumed action Friday, playing Cumby again, this time at Ben K. Green Memorial Park in Cumby.
