The district awards for Class 1A District-23 have been announced, and a number of players from Miller Grove were awarded for their impressive seasons.

Ector dominated in the superlative sections, having the MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Newcomer of the Year was split between Kevin Wittle of Fruitvale and Aston Balvin of Dodd City.

Miller Grove was well represented on the All-District teams with both junior Kobe Robertson and sophomore Isaiah Billingsley named to the All-District First Team. Robertson had a very strong campaign, leading the Hornets in scoring, consistently scoring in double-digits and having 20-point performances. Billinglsey had a strong season as well, running the Hornets’ offense, finding a way for both himself and his teammates to score.

Junior Matt Brignon and sophomore Lexton Sly were both named to the All-District Second Team, while sophomore Tanner Hensley and freshman Riley Hasten were named as honorable mentions. Players weren’t just awarded for their on-court successes, as sophomore Jacob George, Robertson, Billingsley and Sly were all named Academic All-District.

Miller Grove had a strong season as a team, finishing third place in their district and earning a spot in the playoffs. The Hornets took on Avery in the Bi-District round and lost a close 66-62 game in overtime.

Miller Grove didn’t have a single senior and will be returning their entire team next year. Next season the Hornets will once again be in Class 1A District-23 and will be joined by Campbell, Dodd City, Ector, Fruitvale, Greenville PTAA, Ladonia Fannindel and Savoy.
