COMMERCE — The Miller Grove Hornets suffered their sixth straight loss Tuesday following a 20-2 road blowout loss at the hands of the Commerce Tigers. The tone of the game would be set early, as the Hornets couldn’t establish any offensive rhythm and couldn’t contain Commerce on defense, dropping to 0-6 on the season.

The Hornets would be retired in order to start the first inning. From there, the Tigers would go on to score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking a commanding 8-0 lead.

The second inning saw things get worse for the Hornets. After failing to score in the top of the inning, the Tigers would score 11 runs in the bottom of the inning, increasing their already massive lead to 19-0.

Though the Hornets avoided a shut out with a pair of runs by Cage Hasten and Jesse Yates in the top of the third inning, it wasn’t enough to keep the game going, as the Tigers handed the Hornets a 19-2 loss.

The Hornets would fail to record a hit at the plate, being the victim of a no-hitter. Hasten reached base twice, and Jace Beck, Eastin Christian, Kaden Hiller, and Andrew Quintero all record base once.

Hasten suffered the loss on the mound. He lasted only 2/3 on an inning, allowing eight runs (one earned), four walks, and one hit. Yates pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief, conceding six runs and three walks.

Beck failed to record an out in his relief appearance, allowing five runs and two walks. Iissac Hansen pitched the last inning, which was perfect.

The Hornets resumed play Thursday, hosting a tournament.
