Lions take 1st place in DeKalb meet

DEKALB—The Saltillo cross country team traveled to DeKalb Thursday for a meet in which the boys team took first place and the girls team finished fifth.

Leading the way for the boys team was Garrett Tarver who finished first overall with a time of 16:38. Just behind him was Gunner Tarver who came in second place with a time of 17:13.

Two other Lions finished in the top 10: Coy Collins came in fifth place, and Christian Trejo too eighth place. Collins finished with a time of 17:59, while Trejo’s time was 19:08. Kolton McGill took 18th place for the Lions.

As a team, the Lions took first place with a total of 34 points. The next closest in their heat was Hughes Springs which had 59 points and took fourth place overall.

For the Lady Lions it was Kristina Wade who led the way. Wade came in seventh place and finished with a time of 14:16. Not far behind her were Yadhira Alonso, Reagan Speir and Cali Morris who finished 12th, 14th and 15th, respectively. Their times were all within three seconds of each other with Alonso finishing with a time of 14:40.

The Lady Lions finished third in their heat and fifth overall with a total of 78 points. They placed behind Pleasant Grove, DeKalb, Waskom and Hughes Springs.

Saltillo will run again in the Titus Country Fair Cross Country Meet at Mount Pleasant High School on Friday.
