Jefferson scores 25 points
The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats extended their winning streak to five games Tuesday with a 61-42 home win over the Pittsburg Lady Pirates. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a fast start and never looked back, leading to the win.
The first quarter saw the Lady Wildcats take command right away, as the Lady Pirates struggled to find their rhythm. The Lady Wildcats held an 18-7 lead at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same, as the Lady Wildcats continued to play well, while the Lady Pirates’ struggles also continued. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Panthers 19-9 in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 37-16 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the third quarter would be more closely contested, as each team played well on both sides of the ball. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Pirates 12-11 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 49-27.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Pirates tried to fight back, but the game’s outcome had been decided by then. Despite being outscored 15-12 in the final quarter, the Lady Wildcats polished off a 6142 victory.
Trinity Jefferson was the Lady Wildcats’ top scorer with 25 points. Codee Roland and Cami Schaack tied for second in points with nine each. Rounding out the scoring was Aaliyah Cheatum and Tatum Thompson with five points each, Kyra Carter with four, and Kaylee Carter and Rainey Johnson with two each.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 in district and 21-7 overall. They resumed action Friday, traveling to Paris to take on the Paris Lady Wildcats.
