CUMBY- The Cumby Lady Trojans hosted the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles for their Senior Night game Tuesday. Before the game Cumby honored their two seniors, Savanna Kurn and Azlyn Hornsby, looking to send them off with a win in their final home game.

The Lady Trojans got off to a tremendous start, thanks to a kill from Neely Hammond that set the tone. Ashlyn Hudson provided a big pair of kill as well, as Cumby opened the set on a 15-1 run.

As Cumby’s offense began to slow down a bit and the Lady Eagles started to find success, Hammond continued to pace the way, picking up three kills in the back part of the set. Como-Pickton cut the score to 19-11 before Erin Morgan provided a pair of kills to shift the momentum back to the Lady Trojans. Hornsby ended the set with a kill, as Cumby came out on top 25-15.

Hudson got the Lady Trojans out to a very fast start in the second set, providing a pair of kills on the first two possessions of the set. Cumby used that momentum to get out to a 14-2 start, as Hammond continued her strong performance, racking up another three kills during that run.

Como-Pickton once again was able to turn things around in the back half of the set, cutting the deficit to 20-11. Another kill from Hudson snapped a 4-0 Como-Pickton run and the Lady Trojans finished out the set, winning by a final score of 25-11.

Looking to put the game away in straight sets, Cumby once again came out on fire to open thing in the third set. An early kill from Hornsby paced the way as the lady Trojans opened on a 9-1 run.

Heather McCraw joined in on the action with a pair of kills of her own, helping push their lead to 15-2.

Hudson and Hornsby each had an ace in the final few possessions, and Morgan had one more kill, helping the Lady Trojans take the final set by their largest margin of the night, with the final score being 25-8.

Cumby’s two seniors both played huge roles in the 3-0 win, as head coach Marissa Medrano said, “Our seniors had a great night.” Kurn had a very strong all-around game, finishing with eight digs and three kills, while racking up 19 serve points. Hornsby had a very strong showing as well, helping pace the way with 11 kills and three digs.

Hudson added six kills of her own, while McCraw had five kills and a team-high three blocks.
