MERIT — The Cumby Lady Trojans kept their district record perfect Tuesday by taking down the Bland Lady Tigers 15-3 on the road. The Lady Trojans’ bats would be hot for the entire game, as the team combined for 21 hits en route to a blowout victory.

The Lady Trojans set the tone early, scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning, giving them a 9-0 lead. Ashlyn Hudson and Kinslee Dowdle scored two runs each, while Neely Hammond, Harly Pence, Ella Horne, Kadee Pettit, and Bella Faulknor added one each. The Lady Tigers would score two runs in the bottom of the first, making the score 9-2.

Horne would score another run in the top of the second inning, bringing Cumby’s lead to 10-2. The Lady Tigers were then held scoreless in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Trojans continued their scoring run by adding three more runs in the top of the third inning, coming from Hammond, Horne, and Erin Morgan, making the score 13-2. Bland was once again held scoreless in the bottom of the third.

Cumby added two more runs in the fourth inning, coming from Dowdle and Hammond, making the score 15-2. Though the Lady Tigers added one more run, it wasn’t enough to make a difference, as the Lady Trojans capped off a 15-3 road win.

As a team, the Lady Trojans batted 21 for 35 (.600) from the plate. Hammond, Horne, Hudson and Morgan led the way with three hits. Dowdle, Jenna Elmore, Pence, and Pettit added two hits each, while Jenna Bearden added one hit.

Dowdle, Hammond, and Horne were the leading scorers with three runs each. Hudson added two runs, while Faulknor, Morgan, Pence, and Pettit added one run each.

Hammond earned the win in the circle. Across five innings, she struck out eight batters and only conceded three hits, three runs (two earned), and one walk.

With the win, the Lady Trojans are now 5-0 in district play and 7-1 overall. Their next game is Friday, when they travel to Mesquite to face off against the Horn Lady Jaguars in a non-district game.
