COMMERCE — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers broke their twogame losing streak Tuesday by defeating the Wolfe City Lady Wolves 10-3 at Commerce High School. An early strong start and strong defense proved to be enough for the Lady Panthers, as they swept the Lady Wolves for the season.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a quick start in the first inning, scoring four runs. Daylee Fite, Kenzie Phillips, Evie Fuentes-Perry, and Hadlee Hrabal all scored, as the Lady Panthers established a 4-0 lead.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Lady Wolves got on the board in the top of the third inning with a run, trimming the score to 4-1. After that, the Lady Panthers responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning. Hrabal, Chelsea Jolly, and Morgan Burnett all scored, as the Lady Panthers extended their lead to 7-1.

The Lady Wolves would score again in the fourth inning with another run, trimming the score to 7-2. Wolfe City would then add a home run in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the score to 7-3. The Lady Panthers would score again in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kaidence Godbolt and Fite both scored, extending North Hopkins’ lead to 9-3.

The Lady Panthers scored once more in the sixth inning when Burnett scored a run, making the score 10-3. After the Lady Wolves were held scoreless in the top of the seventh inning, the game ended, as North Hopkins put the finishing touched on a 10-3 win.

As a team, the Lady Panthers batted 15 for 30 (.500) from the plate. Fuentes-Perry led the way with three hits. Stevana Buchanan, Burnett, Fite, Godbolt, and Lucy Hernandez tallied two hits a piece, while Hrabal and Taryn Loyd added one hit each.

Burnett, Fite, and Hrabal all shared the title of leading scorer with two runs each. Fuentes-Perry, Godbolt, Jolly, and Phillips all added one run each.

Fite picked up the win in the circle. Across seven innings, she tallied eight strikeouts, allowing only seven hits, three runs (two earned), and two walks.

With the win, the Lady Panthers improved to 6-3 in district and 12-6-1 overall. They resumed action Friday, welcoming the Bland Lady Tigers to Ruth Long Field for their regular season finale.
