Fite, Conner score double-digits

SULPHUR BLUFF — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers snapped their four-game losing streak Monday with a 57-45 road win over the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears. In a game that was closely contested most of the way, the Lady Panthers would pull away late to cap off the win.

The first quarter would see the Lady Panthers score the first points on a two-pointer from Daylee Fite. After a two-pointer for the Lady Bears tied the score, Mariana Aguilar would score on a free throw, then Lucy Conner would make two free throws, putting the Lady Panthers ahead 5-2.

Following a Lady Bears free throw, Cadence Money would make a free throw. This would be followed by another Sulphur Bluff free throw, then a another free throw from Aguilar, brining the score to 7-4.

After another Lady Bears two-pointer, Hadlee Hrabal would drill a three-pointer to extend the lead to 10-6. This would be followed by the Lady Bears scoring two more two-pointers to end the quarter, ending the first quarter in a 10-10 tie.

The Lady Panthers would get off to a slow start in the second quarter, as the Lady Bears opened with seven straight points on a free throw and two three-pointers, putting them ahead 17-10. The Lady Panthers finally scored again when Harley Vaughn made a free throw.

After another two-pointer for Sulphur Bluff, Fite would score on a free throw, brining the score to 19-12.

The Lady Bears would then score another two-pointer. This was followed by Aguilar making a free throw and Hrabal making a two-pointer, cutting the deficit to 2115.

Following a Lady Bears free throw, Sara Attaway made a free throw, followed by another Lady Bears free throw, then a free throw from Conner, making the score 23-17.

After another two-pointer extended the Lady Bears’ lead to 25-17, the Lady Panthers closed out the second quarter with 10 straight points: a pair of two-pointers and a free thew from Attaway, a two-pointer from Money, and a three-pointer from Fite. This would put the Lady Panthers ahead 2725 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Bears would reclaim the lead thanks to a pair of two-pointers and a free throw, putting them ahead 30-27. Soon after, the Lady Panthers would tie the score at 30-30 thanks to a two-pointer and free throw from Money.

After another free throw put the Lady Bears ahead 31-30, the Lady Panthers would close out the third quarter with seven straight points: a three-pointer from Fite, a two-pointer from Attaway, and two free throws from Conner. This would put the Lady Panthers ahead 37-31 as the third quarter ended.

The fourth quarter would begin with the Lady Panthers scoring three points on a free throw from Hrabal and a two-pointer from Vaughn, extending their lead to 4031. After three straight points for the Lady Bears, the Lady Panthers scored again when Jaydee Bryant made a two-pointer, making the score 42-34.

After two free throws for the Lady Bears, Fite would drill another three-pointer. This was followed by a Lady Bears two-pointer, then a two-pointer from Bryant, raising the score to 47-38.

After a Lady Bears two-pointer, Conner would make two free throws. This was followed by another Lady Bears two-pointer, then Conner making two more free throws, extending the score to 51-43.

The Lady Panthers added four more points on a Krystal McPherson two-pointer and two more free throws from Conner. After two more Lady Bears free throws, Aguilar closed out the game with two more free throws, as the Lady Panthers closed out a 57-45 victory.

Fite would be the Lady Panthers’ leading scorer with 12 points. Conner was right behind with 11 points. Rounding out the scoring was Attaway with eight, Hrabal and Money with six each, Aguilar with five, Bryant with four, Vaughn with three, and McPherson with two.

With this win, the Lady Panthers are now 2-4 on the season. Their next game will be Tuesday, when they welcome the Avinger Lady Indians to W.S. Long Gymnasium.
