SALTILLO- The Saltillo Lady Lions hosted Union Hill Tuesday for their first in a pair of district matches between the two teams. The Lady Lions entered the game with a ton of momentum, winning their last six games, the closest of which was a 63-46 win over 4A Liberty-Eylau.

The game opened in a similar fashion to most of their recent games, with Saltillo getting out to a huge lead early. The Lady Lions posted 21 points in the opening quarter without allowing a single point.

Saltillo was able to score 22 points in the second quarter, their highest scoring frame of the game, while allowing Union Hill to score just two points.

The Lady Lions opened the second half by shutting Union Hill out once again, while adding another 18 points of their own. Saltillo went on to score another 18 points in the fourth quarter, while allowing four points to cruise to a 79-6 win.

Anna Reeder was the leading scorer for the Lady Lions, finishing with a total of 22 points. Allie Lane also finished in double-digits, posting 12 points of her own. Other scorers for Saltillo included Kristina Wade with seven points, Chandler Bain with six points, Brittany Peeples with four points and Paisley Kastner with two points.

“We played a good defensive game,” coach Bill Giles said. According to Giles, the only Union Hill basket of the night game came with just eight seconds left in the game.

The win improves Saltillo’s record to 14- 3, and makes them 6-0 in district play. So far this season the Lady Lions have scored 1,029 points, while only allowing 554 points, averaging almost 30 points more per game than they allow.

Saltillo returns home Tuesday to host Sulphur Bluff, their final district opponent they have yet to play this season. The junior varsity girls are set to begin at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity boys, varsity girls and varsity boys teams all to follow.
