MILLER GROVE- The Miller Grove Lady Hornets hosted Greenville Christian Tuesday for their second in a pair of back-to-back matches against the two teams. Miller Grove won the first battle just a few days earlier, winning the game in four sets.

The opening set was a tough one for the Lady Hornets, as they were never able to quite figure things out. Greenville Christian dominated to give themselves an early lead, taking the set 25-12.

The second set was a much different story, as the two teams essentially traded roles. The Lady Hornets put on their strongest performance of the night, evening things up by taking the set by a score of 25-14.

After the two teams traded the opening sets by large margins, things got much closer for the rest of the game. Looking to get their first advantage of the night, Miller Grove won a close third set that came down to a final score of 25-21.

Despite needing just one more set to put the game away, the Lady Hornets quickly found themselves in one trouble. The fourth set was close as well, but this time it was Greenville Christian who forced a fifth and deciding set, winning 25-19.

With the game on the line, the fifth set was another close one. Miller Grove tried to replicate the success they had in the second and third sets but were unable to do so, as Greenville Christian pulled out the 15-13 win to win the game 3-2.

Lainy Burnet had a very strong showing for the Lady Hornets, leading the team in both kills (10) and digs (8). Burnett also had a pair of blocks and one ace.

Just behind her was Jaci Roberson who added another nine kills of her own, to go along with a pair of blocks and an ace.

Setting things up was Kayti Brignon who has had a strong season so far. Brignon had 15 assists, as well as three digs and a pair of kills.

Leading the team in blocks was Ava Sotelo who had an impressive seven-block showing. Other notables included Arean Wood, who had five kills and three blocks. Jamilyn Hensley had four digs and one assist, while Allissa Sallee and Anna Culberson each had three digs.

Kaley Dorantes added a pair of digs, ,while Celeste Robertson had one dig.

The junior varsity team for Miller Grove pulled out the win, beating Greenville Christian in straight sets. They won the opening set 26-24 before taking the second set by a score of 25-18.

Miller Grove has just one game next week, as they receive a bye on Tuesday to rest and regroup for the back half of district. Their only game next week is a home game against Yantis Friday. The match is varsity only and is set to begin at 5 p.m.
