UNION GROVE — The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles continued their great start to the season by competing in the Union Grove Tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Lady Eagles would win the Platinum Bracket Championship for the second year in a row.

For their first game, on Thursday, the Lady Eagles faced off against the Ore City Lady Rebels. The Lady Eagles would win that game 42-18.

The first quarter would see both teams battle each other close. The Lady Eagles would hold an 11-8 lead as the quarter ended.

The second quarter would be more of the same, as both teams continued to play each other close. The Lady Eagles maintained their edge by outscoring the Lady Rebels 8-6, extending their lead to 19-14 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Eagles would take their game to a new level, as the Lady Rebels began to struggle. The Lady Eagles would outscore the Lady Rebels 14-2 to extend their lead to 33-16.

The final quarter would see the Lady Eagles close out the game with a 9-2 scoring run, capping off a 42-18 win.

Mattison Buster would finish as the top scorer with 11 points. Right behind her was Sanay Diaz with 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring was Addi Monk with six, Cali Morris with five, Maggie Brown with four, Bella Romero and Shyann Wetzel with three each, and Bailey Neal with two.

For their second game, on Friday, the Lady Eagles took on the Waskom Lady Wildcats. Waskom would hand the Lady Eagles a 4931 loss.

The first quarter would see Waskom get off to a fast start, as the Lady Eagles struggled. Waskom would build a 13-7 lead early on.

The second quarter saw Waskom continue to play well, as the Lady Eagles continued to struggle. Waskom would outscore the Lady Eagles 10-6 to extend their lead to 23-13 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Eagles would fight hard to stay in the game, as they improved their play. Despite this, Waskom outscored the Lady Eagles 13-12, extending their lead to 3625.

Waskom would close out the game with a 13-6 scoring run in the fourth quarter to close out a 4931 win.

Diaz and Monk would finish as the top scorers with nine points each. Buster was right behind with eight points. Lauren Lewellen and Morris rounded out the scoring with three points each.

For their third game, the Lady Eagles faced the Harleton Lady Wildcats. The Lady Eagles would rebound from the recent loss with a 46-37 win.

The first quarter would be a back and forth battle for both teams, as they fought for control. The Lady Eagles would take an early 12-11 lead.

The second quarter was also tightly contested, as both teams continued to play well. A 10-10 tie in the second quarter would give the Lady Eagles a 22-21 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Eagles began to pull away, as Harleton had trouble keeping up. The Lady Eagles would outscore Harleton 12-8 to extend their lead to 34-29.

The final quarter would see the Lady Eagles once again outscore Harleton 12-8, as the capped off a 46-37 win.

Monk would take too scoring honors with 19 points. Behind her was Lewellen with eight points.

Rounding out the scoring was Morris with six, Buster with four, and Diaz, Romero, and Wetzel with three each.

For the championship game, on Saturday, the Lady Eagles faced off against the West Rusk Lady Raiders. The Lady Eagles would win first place with a 46-38 win.

The first quarter would set the tone for the game, as the Lady Eagles grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it. The Lady Eagles would lead 18-14 early on.

The second quarter would be closer, as the Lady Raiders attempted to fight back. The Lady Eagles would still outscore the Lady Raiders 9-8 to extend their lead to 27-22 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Eagles continued to play well, as the Lady Raiders still couldn’t overtake them. The Lady Eagles would outscore West Rusk 11-7 to extend their lead to 3829.

Though the Lady Raiders would outscore the Lady Eagles 9-8 in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough, as the Lady Eagles held on for a 46-38 victory.

Monk would finish as the leading scorer with 21 points. Buster was right behind with 19 points. Rounding out the scoring was Diaz and Lewellen with three points each.

With these results, the Lady Eagles are now 4-2 on the season. They will resumed action Monday, traveling to Detroit to take on the Detroit Lady Eagles.
