Rainey goes 4/4 from plate

PARIS — The No. 4 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles soared to their 13th consecutive win Friday with a 15-5 victory against the Rivercrest Lady Rebels at Chisum High School. Throughout the game, the Lady Eagles outplayed the Lady Rebels at every opportunity and never gave them a chance, leading to a run-rule victory.

The first inning saw the Lady Eagles take the lead early on when Paisley Watkins scored a run, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Saylor Smith scored a run to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Rebels would get on the board in the top of the third inning with a run of their own, trimming the score to 2-1. The Lady Eagles responded with six runs in the bottom of the third inning. Addi Monk, Smith, Sarah Corley, Sanay Diaz, and Journey Brumley all scored, as the Lady Eagles increased their lead to 8-1.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles added three more runs. Smith, Corley, and Diaz all scored, as the Lady Eagles extended their lead to 11-1.

The Lady Rebels would score three runs in the top of the fifth inning, trimming the score to 11-4. The Lady Eagles added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Watkins scored, extending their lead to 12-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Rebels added another run, trimming the deficit to 12-5. From there, the Lady Eagles scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to run-rule Rivercrest.

Corley, Aubrey Martinez, and Diaz all scored, as the Lady Eagles polished off a 15-5 win.

As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 13 for 29 (.448) from the plate. Rainey would lead the way, going a perfect 4/4. Not far behind were Monk and Smith with three hits each.

Corley tallied two hits, while Watkins added one.

Corley, Diaz, Smith, and Watkins all shared the title of leading scorer with three runs a piece. Brumley, Martinez, and Monk all added one run each.

Rainey earned the win in the circle. Across five innings, she notched five strikeouts, conceding only six hits, four runs (three earned), and three walks. Monk pitched the final inning in relief, striking out one batter and only allowing one hit and one run.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 3-0 in district and 22-2 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Fruitvale to face off against the Fruitvale Lady Bobcats.
