Brumley leads with three runs

COMO — The No. 6 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles rebounded from a tough loss Tuesday by cruising past the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears 16-1 at home. Throughout the game, the Lady Eagles outplayed the Lady Bears at every opportunity and never gave them a chance, leading to a big win.

The first inning began with the Lady Eagles gaining an early lead. Bella Romero and Lexie Rainey both scored, as the Lady Eagles took a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears would get on the board in the top of the second inning with a run, trimming the score to 2-1. The Lady Eagles answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Journey Brumley, Diaz, Romero, and Gracie Thompson all scored, as the Lady Eagles extended their lead to 6-1.

The Lady Eagles went on a tear in the third inning, scoring nine runs. Paisley Watkins and Brumley scored two runs, while Thompson, Aubrey Martinez, Addi Monk, Saylor Smith, and Sarah Corley all scored one run each, as the Lady Eagles increased their lead to 151.

After the Lady Bears were held scoreless in the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles capped off the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Rainey scored the winning run, polishing off a 16-1 victory.

As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 8 for 24 (.333) from the plate. Brumley, Romero, and Watkins led with two hits each, while Diaz and Smith added one hit each.

Brumley finished as the leading scorer with three runs. Rainey, Romero, Thompson, and Watkins scored two runs each, while Corley, Diaz, Monk, and Smith added one run each.

Monk earned the victory in the circle. Across four innings, she recorded nine strikeouts and conceded only two hits, one run, and one walk.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 24-3 on the season. They resumed action Friday, traveling to Bogata to take on the Rivercrest Lady Rebels.
