SULPHUR BLUFF — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears won a close home game Friday night against Avery, in a game that came down to the wire 42-38.

The game started with Avery running a full court press and both teams struggling to find any offense in the opening quarter.

Both teams picked up their offense in the second quarter, but neither team was able to break away from the other. They went into the half tied 18-18.

Sulphur Bluff made some defensive adjustments during halftime, took their first lead on the game in the third quarter and entered the fourth leading 28-26.

The Lady Bears had their highest scoring quarter of the night in the fourth and would put the game away, winning 42-38.

Skylar Stanley finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four steals, leading the team in each of those categories. Bailey Neal was right behind her with 11 points and four rebounds, and Angel Brown added another 10 points, while also grabbing three rebounds and dishing out three assists. Other scorers for the Lady Bears were Jada Wade with 7 and Tori Raine with 2.

Sulphur Bluff will have its homecoming Friday Jan. 17 against Union Hill. The JV Boys start at 5 p.m. with the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys to follow.
