MOUNT VERNON — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears suffered another blemish to their record Friday following a 10-1 loss to the Mount Vernon Lady Tigers JV team. Despite a strong start, the Lady Bears gave up 10 unanswered runs, leading to the loss.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Emma Carr scored a run, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Tigers then scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, pulling ahead 2-1.

The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the second inning, extending their lead to 4-1. They would then add five runs in the third inning, raising the score to 9-1.

Another run by the Lady Tigers in the fourth inning brought the score to 10-1. After the Lady Bears were held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, the game ended, as the Lady Bears suffered a 10-1 loss.

As a team, the Lady Bears batted just 2 for 14 (.143) from the plate. Carr and Dylan Strain both tallied one hit each, with Carr scoring the only run.

Emma Neal suffered the loss in the circle. Across four innings, she conceded eight hits, eight earned runs, and three walks, tallying four strikeouts.

With the loss, the Lady Bears fell to 1-15 on the season. They resumed action Monday, welcoming the Saltillo Lady Lions to Sulphur Bluff High School.
