Three players record double-doubles

DODD CITY — The No. 23 Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears suffered their second consecutive loss Friday following a four-set loss at the hands of the Dodd City Lady Hornets. Though the game was competitive from beginning to end, the Lady Bears could never quite gain an edge over the Lady Hornets, leading to a bitter defeat.

The first set would be an intense battle, as each team fought hard for the early control. The Lady Hornets would win the first set 2520, gaining the early lead.

The next set was another high-scoring affair, as both teams continuously traded point. Ultimately, the Lady Bears would win the second set 25-23, evening the score at 1-1.

The third set saw both teams continue their strong play, with no signs of slowing down. Though the Lady Bears fought hard, the Lady Hornets ultimately won the third set 25-18, reclaiming their lead.

The fourth set would see the Lady Bears fight harder, as they tried to keep the game alive. But in the end, their efforts fell just short, as the Lady Hornets edged out a 25-22 win the fourth set, capping off the win and handing the Lady Bears a loss.

Madi Collett recorded a 47-assist, 12-dig double- double, also adding two kills. Constance Smith also had a double-double with 25 digs and 18 kills, adding one ace and one block.

The double-doubles didn’t stop there, as Emma Neal recorded a 25-dig, 12kill double-double. BreAnna Stanley was the leader in digs with 27, adding three aces and one kill.

Yulisa Castillo finished with eight kills, five digs, and three blocks. Zaylee Peyton tallied eight kills, five digs, two aces, and one assist. Emily Melton recorded six digs.

Skyler Sheffield totaled five kills, two digs, and two blocks. Kadence Smith had five digs. Emerson Fite also contributed with two aces, one kill, and one dig.

With the loss, the Lady Bears are now 17-17 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, welcoming the Christian Home Educators of Sulphur Springs (CHESS) Lady Knights to Sulphur Bluff High School.
