Sit 9-2 in district

DODD CITY — The Miller Grove Hornets are up to 9-2 in district play with the results of their recent games. The Hornets currently find themselves in second place in their district.

In their first of two games, the Hornets traveled to Dodd City Friday to face off against the No. 10 Dodd City Hornets. Unfortunately for Miller Grove, Dodd City would hand them a 72-31 loss, sweeping Miller Grove for the season.

Kavan Smith was the leading scorer in the game with 12 points, also adding three rebounds, three steals, two deflections, and one assist. Ryker Haivala came up with six points, five assists, four rebounds, two deflections, and one block.

Anthony Lester also scored six points, adding four rebounds, two deflections, and one steal. Ethan George came up with five points, three assists, two deflections, and one rebound.

Eli Griffin rounded out the scoring with two points, also adding one deflection. Other contributors include Mason Clements with one assist and Jaden Furrh with one steal.

The following day, the Hornets welcomed the Fate PTAA Panthers to Miller Grove High School. The Hornets would erase the memory of the previous night’s loss with a 76-27 victory over the Panthers.

Haivala led the way with 27 points, also adding eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals, and two deflections. Smith would come up with 17 points, six deflections, four steals, two assists, and one rebound.

The double-digits didn’t stop there, as Furrh added 14 points, also recording seven rebounds and four steals. George came up with nine points, six rebounds, five deflections, three assists, and one steal.

Lester finished with five points, 14 rebounds, four assists, one deflection, and one steal. Clements rounded out the scoring with four points, also tallying two rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

With these results, the Hornets are now 9-2 in district and 21-10 overall. Their next game is Tuesday, when they welcome the Fannindel Falcons to Miller Grove High School.
