BOGATA - The Como-Pickton Eagles went to Bogata Friday to face Rivercrest for their district opener. After opening their season with a pair of wins and a pair of losses, the Eagles were looking to kick off district play with a win that would put them over the .500 mark on the year.

Como-Pickton found themselves playing from behind early, as Rivercrest took an early 7-0 lead. Looking to even things up, the Eagles lost the ball on a fumble, setting up a 55-yard touchdown to give Rivercrest a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter the Eagles were once again stopped by Rivercrest, as they were forced to punt near the 50-yard line. Rivercrest fielded the punt near the 15-yard line, breaking off a huge 85-yard return in which they found the end zone once again. Before the end of the first half Rivercrest added to their lead one more time, this time on an 18-yard run to push their lead to 28-0 at the half.

Things slowed down a ton in the second half, as Rivercrest only added three more points to their lead. Trailing 31-0, Como-Pickton put points of the board for the first time, bringing the final score to 31-8.

Avelrado Villa was once again the leading rusher for the Eagles, racking up 61 yards on 17 attempts. The next leading rusher was Ian Rodgers who had 45 yards on 13 tries.

Quarterback Kevin Hernandez completed three of his five passing attempts, finishing with 31 total passing yards. Rodgers had two catches for 27 yards, while Ulyses Garza had one catch for four yards.

Koby Perez was the leading tackler for Como-Pickton, finishing with game with six total tackles. Just behind him were Diego Perez, Cash Wilton and Tucker Rutledge who all had five tackles each.

The loss drops Como-Pickton’s record to 2-3 on the year and makes them 0-1 in district play. They will look to get back to the .500 mark both on the season and in district with a home game against Honey Grove Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
