Diaz goes 3/3 from plate

COOPER — The No. 6 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles won their third consecutive game Thursday by defeating the Detroit Lady Eagles 16-0 at Cooper High School. The game’s outcome would be decided quickly, as Como-Pickton dominated early and never gave Detroit a chance.

This game was played in Cooper due to wet field conditions in Detroit.

The first inning saw Como-Pickton immediately take charge, lighting up the scoreboard. Gracie Thompson scored two runs, while Lexie Rainey, Addi Monk, Saylor Smith, Sarah Corley, Sanay Diaz, Paisley Watkins, Journey Brumley, Bella Romero, and Aubrey Martinez all scored one run each, as Como-Pickton took a commanding 11-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Lady Eagles added onto their lead. Watkins, Brumley, Diaz, Martinez, and Monk all scored, as Como-Pickton’s lead increased

to 16-0. The third inning would be scoreless, as both offenses struggled. Following a scoreless fourth inning, the game came to an end, as Como-Pickton polished off a 16-0 shut out win.

As a team, Como-Pickton batted 14 for 24 (.583) from the plate. Diaz led the way, going a perfect 3/3. Brumley, Smith, Thompson, and Watkins tallied two hits each, while Monk, Rainey, and Romero added one hit each.

Brumley, Diaz, Martinez, Monk, Thompson, and Watkins all shared the title of leading scorer with two runs each. Corley, Rainey, Romero, and Smith added one run each.

Rainey pitched a shut out in the circle. Across four innings, she recorded six strikeouts, allowing only one hit and one run.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 6-1 in district and 26-3 overall. They resumed action Friday, welcoming the Saltillo Lady Lions to Como-Pickton High School.
