HALLSVILLE—The Saltillo boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Hallsville Friday to run in the Cross Country Invitational in Hallsville. The Lions were competing against multiple bigger schools, including Lufkin, Mount Pleasant and Sulphur Springs.

In the boys heat, the Lions finished in fifth place behind Lufkin, Mount Pleasant, Euastace and Spring Hill. Individually, Garrett Tarver took second place, finishing with a time of 16:53. Gunner Tarver came in 10th place with a time of 18:06, and Coy Collins finished in 18th place with a time of 18:34.

The Lady Lions finished in sixth place in their heat, with a total of 119 points. Their best runner was Kristina Wade who finished in 18th place with a time of 23:40. Cali Morris and Brianna Tawil were right behind her, coming in 24th place and 27th place, respectively.

“This was a great meet for us to run in,” Coach Bill Giles said. “The competition was very good, and it made us better today.”

The Lions will run again on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Dekalb.
