CUMBY — The Sulphur Bluff Bears earned their fourth straight victory Tuesday following a 19-5 blowout win against the Cumby Trojans. The Bears would get off to a strong start early on and reinforced that with a strong fourth inning, leading to a big win.

The first inning saw the Bears jump out to an early lead. Gavin Brazell, Clint Degen, and Brody Gunn all scored, as the Bears established a 3-0 lead. The second inning would be scoreless, with both defenses performing well.

In the top of the third inning, the Bears would add five more runs to their lead. Christian, Ayden Johnson, Kison Joslin, Marshall Johnson, and Matthew Overly would all score, as the Bears raised their lead to 8-0. The Trojans would answer with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning, trimming the score to 8-5.

The fourth inning saw the Bears go on a tear, scoring 10 runs. Brody Gunn, Brock Gunn, and Ayden Johnson all scored two runs each, while Joslin, Evan Carr, Overly, Brazell added one run each, as the Bears increased their lead to 18-5.

The Bears scored again in the fifth inning when Brazell scored another run, bringing the score to 19-5. After the Trojans were held scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, the game ended, as the Bears capped off a 19-5 victory.

As a team, the Bears batted 15 for 29 (.517) from the plate. Brody Gunn led with four hits. Not far behind were Brazell and Joslin with three hits each.

Brock Gunn tallied two hits, while Ayden Johnson, Ty LeMond, and Overly added one hit each.

Brazell, Brody Gunn, and Ayden Johnson finished as the leading scorers with three runs each. Brock Gunn, Joslin, and Overly scored two runs each, while Carr, Christian, and Degen added one hit each.

Brody Gunn earned the win on the mound. Across three innings, he struck out six batters, allowing just seven hits, five earned runs, and two walks. Brazell pitched the final two innings in relief, striking out two batters.

With the win, the Bears improved to 3-3 on the season. They resumed action Friday, welcoming the North Hopkins Panthers to Sulphur Bluff High School.
