Joan Cockerell, 92, of Sulphur Springs passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 at home surrounded by her family and friends. A memorial and inurnment will be held at a later date in Balmorhea, Texas.

Joan Jones was born in Balmorhea, Texas on Dec. 9, 1927. She grew up the daughter of Henry Jones (farmer) and Winnie Davis Jones (housewife). She raised three children (Mickie Cockerell Wilson, Debbie Cockerell and Buster Cockerell.) She has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Joan was also a member at the Methodist Church in Tom Bean, Texas. She retired as a circuit board assembler with Texas Instruments, after 25 years. Joan enjoyed dancing at her free time, and she liked dancing line dancing as well as square dancing. She was involved in making circuit for smart bombs during Gulf War.

She is survived by her daughters, Mickie Wilson of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Debbie Cockerell of Gatesville, Texas; son, Gowman M. “Buster” Cockerell Jr. and wife Wendy Cockerell of Dublin, Texas; grandchildren, Kim Schrock, Cristy Hutton, Amie Cockerell, Casey Galliton, Lacey Lee, John Paul Cockerell, Mattew Cockerell and Justin Cockerell; and five great-grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Jones and Henry “Togo” Jones; and sister, Joyce Jones. Arrangements under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. The online register can be signed at www.murrayorwosky.com
