Lady Cats extend their winning streak to 8 games

Washburn posts 26 kills

MARSHALL- The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Marshall Friday for their second district match of the season between the two. The Lady Cats won the first matchup on Oct. 6 by a score of 3-2. That win began a seven-game winning streak that Sulphur Springs was still riding going into Friday’s game.

The Lady Cats opened the game with a strong first set, winning by a score of 25-16. Marshall made things tough in the second set, but Sulphur Spring was able to take it 25-21, before putting the game away with a 25-13 win in the third set.

Senior Sadie Washburn led the way, posting an impressive 26-kill performance. As a team, Marshall combined for 17 kills in the match. Washburn also had a gamehigh 14 digs, as well as a pair of blocks and two aces.

Behind her was junior Brooklynn Burnside who had eight kills and a gamehigh five blocks. Burnside also had four aces and two digs in the 3-0 win.

Setting things up was junior Peyton Hammack who had an incredible game, posing 36 assists. The next closest was Marshall’s Caitlyn Ellenburg, who had 13 assists. Hammack also had a pair of kills and an ace.

Defensively, the Lady Cats were paced by Laney Hurst, Parris Pickett and Bre’Asia Ivery. Hurst had eight digs, while Pickett and Ivery each had seven digs. Pickett also had four assists, while Ivery had a pair of aces.

Other contributors for Sulphur Springs were Addisyn Wall; five kills and four digs, Kaslyn Hurley; four blocks, one kill and one dig, Caroline Hurley; two kills and one dig, and Nylah Lindley, who had two kills.

The win extends the Lady Cats winning streak to eight games, with each of their last four wins come by scores of 3-0. Sulphur Springs will return home on Saturday for a varsity-only match against Longview, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.
