Hopkins County voters can soon head to the polls to cast ballots to elect a Texas House District 2 representative, a position vacated last year by Bryan Slaton.
Republicans Brent Money and Jill Dutton, were the two candidates who received the most votes in the the Nov. 5 General Election. No candidate received 50% or more of the votes cast, triggering a runoff between Dutton and Money.
The Texas House District 2 Special Election was called for Jan. 30, with early voting from Jan. 22 to Jan. 26, at the Hopkins County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Courtroom, 128G Jefferson St., in Sulphur Springs. Ballots may be cast early by personal appearance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with voting hours extended from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Jan. 25-26.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Hopkins County voters may cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at any of the following locations:
Precinct 1 — Lutheran Church Foyer, 1000 Texas St., Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 2A — H.W. Grays Building, 413 Beckham St., Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 3 — Hopkins County Courthouse, first floor courtroom, 118 Church St., Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 3A — Paris Junior College-Sulphur Springs Campus, Room 101A, 1137 Loop 301, Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 4 — Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, West Hall, 1200 Houston St., Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 4A — League Street Church of Christ, Front Foyer, 1100 South League St., Sulphur Springs;
Precinct 5 — Saltillo ISD, Ag Lab, 150 County Road 3534, Saltillo;
Precinct 11 — Cumby Municipal Building, City Meeting Room, 100 EastMain St., Cumby; Precinct 12 — Sulphur Bluff ISD, Foyer Outside Gym, 1027 County Road 3550, Sulphur Bluff;
Precinct 13 — Como-Pickton CISD, Art Room, 13017 State Highway 11 East, Como;
Precinct 16 — Miller Grove ISD Foyer outside gym, 7819 FM 275 South, Cumby; and Precinct 17 — North Hopkins ISD Administration Building, 1994 FM 71 west, Sulphur Springs.

Those completing a paper application must mail it to Tracy Smith, Hopkins County Clerk, at 128 Jefferson Street, Suite C, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.
Completed applications for a mail ballot may also be submitted via email to Smith's office at clerk@hopkinscountytx. org.
Applications for Ballots by Mail must be received in Hopkins County Clerk's Office no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, in order for the ballot to be counted in the HD2 Runoff Election.
