Longtime educator Vanessa Abron will be honored, along with the recipients of this year’s scholarship recipients, at the Cassie Edwards Scholarship Program next month. Abron is well deserving of the honor for her decades of dedication to local students as an educator and administrator.
The 2024 scholarship banquet will be held on April 13, 2024, in the Gray's Building, located in Pacific Park. Ticket sales are $15. Tickets can be purchased online (www.cedwardsscholar. org) or by contacting one of the following members of the Cassie Edwards Scholarship Program Board of Directors: Hillary Young, Donna Washington, Ashanta Alexander, Wanda Allen, Marian Ellis, and Billy Edwards Jr.
The nonprofit group named in honor of longtime Sulphur Springs resident and musician Cassie Edwards,who also had the distinction of being the first African American inducted into the National Honor Society at Sulphur Springs High School, in April 2023 honored Silvesta Alexander for 53 years in teaching and education in Sulphur Springs ISD. Four seniors also received scholarships. Keziah Sims received a $4,600 award from the Cassie Edwards Scholarship, Tamiyah Rose a $1,750 scholarship, Kayla Abron $950 and Tia Nash $350).
The Cassie Edwards Scholarship Program board extends thanks to the community and businesses for their support of this scholarship campaign.
