Van resident enters race for State House vacancy

Jill Dutton, a conservative Republican from Van, has entered the race for the upcoming Texas House District 2 seat.

Dutton will be campaigning to represent Hopkins, Hunt and Van Zandt Counties in the Texas State House of Representatives. She previously served on the Van ISD School Board for 10 years from 2007 to 2017. In 2021, Dutton led the effort to establish a chapter of the Texas Federation of Republican Women in Van Zandt County.

Dutton currently serves as precinct chair, deputy voter registrar and secretary for the Van Zandt County Executive Committee.

According to her candidate website, Dutton “is a strong advocate for lowering property taxes and supports fully securing the border, empowering parents in schools, defending the Second Amendment, preventing child gender modification, and is dedicated to protecting the life of our most vulnerable Texans from conception to natural death.”

The special election will be held Tuesday, November 7.
