A 68-year-old Sulphur Springs woman died as a result of injuries sustained in Hillcrest Drive crash Thursday, according to Sulphur Springs Police.

Officers responded at 5:07 p.m. May 18 on Hillcrest Drive at the intersection of Airport Road, to what was reported as a major vehicle crash.

According to preliminary investigation, SSPD reported Friday, a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche was northbound on Hillcrest Drive, approaching the intersection of Airport Road. A 2016 Honda CR-V was also westbound on Airport Road from the stop sign. The Honda, preliminary reports stated, failed to yield right of way, causing the crash.

The driver of the Honda was transported to CHRISTUS Mother Francis Hospital, but later succumbed to her injuries. The driver was identified as Rebecca Wright Flippin, 68, of Sulphur Springs.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who was not identified in the preliminary police release, was also transported to the hospital; she was treated and released, however.

SSPD encourages community members to keep all involved in their thoughts and prayers in the days to come.
