Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies reported conflicting stories from a pair who were pulled over on South Broadway Street late Sunday for allegedly not maintaining a single lane. The female passenger was reported to have an active warrant, and the deputy alleged the 44-year-old male driver admitted to previously being in trouble.

The deputy stated in his report he saw a “grey clothed [sic]” on the floorboard under the driver’s legs and requested to search the car, which the driver allegedly denied. The deputy called in a K-9 but reported that, while waiting, he saw “a clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine near the gray cloth.”

Following a K-9 positive alert, allegedly found in the 1995 Nissan were two glass pipes, a clear baggie “containing a small amount” of suspected meth, as well as a “clear baggie in the sweatband of the [driver’s] cowboy hat,” which also reportedly contained suspected meth.

The arrest report states that the substance field-tested positive for meth with a weight of 0.88 grams.

The driver was arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than a gram.

The female passenger, in custody on the warrant, allegedly complained of stomach pains and requested medical attention, the report read. The passenger was taken to the hospital.
