The City Cemetery Society met on Dec. 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. in Myra Wilson chapel. The meeting was opened with the Lord’s Prayer led by Annada Jones.

Members attending included Jimmy and Dena Lloyd, Jim and Annada Jones, Amanda Thomas, Cathy Bonner, Carolyn Rawson, John Sellers, Carole Swindell, Doris Dobson and Debbie Barrett.

Debbie Barrett read minutes from the previous meeting and Jim Jones gave the financial report.

A memorial report was given by Annada Jones. Memorials were given in memory of Mary Ann Anglin by Max and Amanda Hendrixx, Linda Barrett by Debbie Barrett, Warren Brewer Jr by Mary and Gerry Grand, Suzanne B. Thomas by James and Annada Jones, Charles and Sharon Helm by Jerry Graves, David and Jo Beth Brewer by Mickey and Barbara McKenzie, and Mary Ruth Taylor by Debbie Barrett.

A donation was given to the cemetery by Gary and Debbie Dobbie.

Old business and new business was discussed.

John Sellers gave a short historical talk on the City Cemetery and Mel Haven Cemetery.

Thanks were given to Jimmy and Dena Lloyd, Jim Jones, and Steve Longino for their hard work in making Wreaths Across America program a success this year.

The next meeting will be held Feb. 13, 2024. All who are interested in preserving the history of the cemetery are invited to attend.

The City Cemetery Society also reminds family members that they are responsible for the repairs and upkeep of memorial stones on graves.
