SSHS student state champ in theatrical design contest

University Interscholastic League officials announced winners of state competition for this school year.

According to the UIL, these contests generated an unprecedented number of entries—more than 400 essays.

Of those, four Sulphur Springs High School students placed in the top 12. For the Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition, sixth place went to Matthew Harper, fourth place to Nathan Braddy and third place to Annmarie Gunn. Paige Daniel was also a finalist in this event, placing in the top 12 in the state.

Other SSHS students who submitted entries were Brandon Hodges, Lige Leavens, Zoe Westlund and Isabelle Thesing.

In the Latino History Essay Contest, Rachel Bramlett took first place as the state champion.

In Theatrical Design, AllieGrace Woodard took sixth place in state competition in the make-up and hair division. Woodard earned her award, competing with 700 entries and almost 300 state qualifiers.
