A 23-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at his residence on Carter Street at 11:38 p.m. Thursday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

SSPD officers were dispatched to a crash in the 400 block of Bill Bradford Road. The driver of the vehicle involved reportedly left the scene. Officers located the vehicle at the residence and were able to identify the man as the sole occupant and driver.

The man was allegedly “showing off for friends” and drifting when he hit a curb at the crash location. He was found to have glassy eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Officers conducted standard field sobriety tests and found the man to be intoxicated.

He reportedly refused to provide a specimen and was taken to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Sulphur Springs for a blood draw, then transported to the Hopkins County jail. Bond was set at $1,000, and he remained in jail as of press time Friday.
