Nesha and Gynel Mala, daughters of Mario Mala, owner of the previous San Remo location, have brought San Remo back to Sulphur Springs.

“Our heart is here, everything is here,” Nesha Mala shared. “We’re happy to be back where it all started. After 20 years in the family restaurant, even after we were gone, we’re getting a lot of positive feedback and love from the community,” Nesha Mala said.

San Remo Italian Restaurant located at 226 Connally Street in downtown Sulphur Springs is a small, intimate setting with an enhanced menu with everyone’s favorite dishes.

When the previous location opened in December 1999 it became a much beloved place to visit and when the doors closed in September 2015, reportedly for renovations, residents of Sulphur Springs waited with bated breath to see if the restaurant would reopen.

However Mala’s children had moved away, leading Mala to retire.

The Mala siblings all own restaurants in Dallas, Rowlett and Allen, however there is only one San Remo.

“We never sold because we knew that we were planning to come back,” Nesha Mala said.

Chef Clemente Jimenez, the chef at the previous location, has come back to continue working for the Mala family at the new location to keep a sense of consistency within the restaurant.

The Mala daughters shared that their dad has 30 years of Italian and French cooking experience and has trained with famous chefs on the East Coast.

The Mala’s shared that the menu for all restaurants was derived from Mario Mala.
