The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Monday evening was short and sweet as the members moved to approve a single rezoning request for an Oak Street property.

The two-acre lot at 618 Oak Avenue was approved by the commission to be rezoned from multifamily to light commercial to allow its owners to convert it into an office space. According to Sulphur Springs Community Development Director Tory Niewiadomski, the conversion aligns with the city’s land use plan, which outlines Oak Avenue as a commercial area.

The planned development and use also matches the surrounding area from the law offices to the north and the pizza store and former video rental store to the west. In addition, four letters in favor of the proposal were returned.

To cap the meeting, Niewiadomski said there are plats possibly in the works right now, but they will be addressed in the future when fully ready.
