The Hopkins County Hospital District Board unanimously approved a reduction of the tax incentive granted to Ocean Spray Cranberries due to the company reportedly failing to meet the terms of the abatement agreement.

In return for the abatement, Ocean Spray Cranberries was required to maintain a workforce of 147 employees. A reduction in staffing resulted from positions that were not filled when employees left the Sulphur Springs plant, dropping the number of jobs to 125 in late July. Ocean Spray Cranberries has announced that five jobs will be added back this year.

The City of Sulphur Springs voted to completely revoke the abatement, while the Hopkins County Commissioners Court opted to reduce the abatement by 10%, matching the staffing reduction.

The Hopkins County Hospital District Board opted to reduce the abatement to 90%.
