New COVID-19 cases announced in Hopkins County

Updated as of 8:55 p.m. Tuesday: Hopkins County Emergency Management has just announced two additional new cases of COVID-19. This brings the total of current active cases to six. The new cases were not part of the testing this past Friday. Hopkins County businesses will remain at 50% occupancy, according to Judge Robert Newsom. 

Hopkins County Emergency Management announced that Hopkins County now has 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

With one of the previously active cases adding to the total, the number of recovered cases now stands at five and active at six.

This announcement comes after a drive-thru testing station set up by the Texas National Guard Friday at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center at which 107 individuals were screened and tested for the coronavirus. The new cases are not from the results of those tests.

Emergency Management stated that there is no other information is known at this time, and the Local Health Authority is currently investigating the new case.

Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom stated that the people recently diagnosed positive with COVID-19 are isolated and receiving treatment. He also stated that Hopkins County businesses remain open at 50% occupancy.
