The Northeast Texas Junior Market Livestock Show got off to a big start Tuesday with FFA students from Hopkins County schools pitting their agriculture mechanics skills against one another in a competition, and continued Thursday and Friday with area FFA and 4-H youth showing their livestock projects, competing for top in class, as well as grand and reserve grand champion honors. Ag Mechanics

Students competed in a number of different categories, but the Grand Champion award went to Sulphur Springs High School FFA members Tate Bradford, Wayne Hinton, Jose Flores and Garrett Tubb, who constructed a float trailer.

Reserve Grand Champion and Showmanship winners were Cash Gamblin and Braddox Rawson, for their cattle squeeze chute.

Lambs

In the lamb contest, Senior Showmanship honors went to Hopkins County 4-H member Reese Ragan, while Miller Grove FFA member Kallie Mabe earned Junior Showmanship honors and Hopkins County 4-H member Ryan Ragan Intermediate Showmanship honors. The lambs are then ranked, with the top 19 considered for Saturday’s sale.
