Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees formally accepted 17 staff resignations and one retirement notice, and approved administrators' recommendations of 15 new hires and six personnel changes during the regular July school board meeting.
Jairo Ramirez, resigned his position as dual Language Enrichment/Language Proficiency Assessment Committee facilitator to take a new job outside of the school district.
New hire Don Brice will replace Barbara Bloodgood as an instructional aide at Austin Acadmeic CEnter.
Presley Smith resigned her position as a first grade teacher, and Karsyn Spaulding was hired to replace Nina Robinson as a Special education aide at Barbara Bush Primary.
At Bowie Primary, Esme Aguilar resigned her position as a third grade English language arts and reading teacher to accept a new job. Brittany Hicks resigned as a first grade teacher at BBP, citing personal reasons. Principal Pam Voss retired. Natalie Thrash will be replacing Cinthia Salas as a new special eduaction aide and Jerrod Williams will fill the special education aide position left vacant by Yesenia Mata.
Douglass Early Childhood Learning Center special education aide Lydia Sifuentes, and Head Start teacher Melissa Spencer tendered their resignations, citing personal reasons. Mickie Fagan will replace Laura Geeslin as a special education aide. Geeslin is switching positions to become as Head Start aide at Douglass Early Childhood Learning Center. Carla Greer was hired as a Head Start teacher, replacing Nancy Potts, who has accepted a new position out- side of SSISD. Jamie Ortega will replace Schai Schaefer as a special education aide. Schaefer has also accepted a new job outside SSISD. Marlene Martinez will replace Nancy Gutierrez as an Emerging Bilingual aide; Gutierrez’s reason for leaving was not indicated. Kate Mitchell will be a new instructional aide, replacing Victorino Perez. He indicated he was leaving his position due to personal reasons.
At Rowena Johnson Primary, Mistie Davidson was hired as a first grade teacher, replacing Skyler Shumate, who will be moving to Sulphur Springs Middle School to teach eighth grade English language arts and reading.
At Sulphur Springs Elementary School Rachandra Berry will replace Denise Luna as a special education aide. Luna cited personal reasons for her resignation. Caitlyn Froneberger, a fifth grade science teacher, replaces Miranda Coleman, who accepted a new position.
Yadira Preciado will join the faculty at Sulphur Springs Middle School as the new sixth grade math teacher. Preciado replaces Kayla Gentry, who willbump up a grade level to fill the seventh grade math vacancy left by Patricia Miller.
Sulphur Springs High School Assistant Principal Vanessa Abron resigned her position to accept a new job.
Also leaving is Tammy Carrell, who was an athletic trainer at both the SSMS and SSHS campuses. Carrell accepted a job outside SSISD. Rebecca Huffman resigned as assistant girls' soccer coach at SSHS because she is moving out of the district.
SSHS assistant boys’ basketball coach and world geography teacher Jerrick Massenburge resigned. His position will be filled by David Neal. Leslie McDowell resigned her position as an English 4 teacher in order to accept a new position. English teacher Jacob McKeever notified the district he too has accepted a new job.
High school paraprofessional Teri Morton and special education teacher Brenda Perez resigned for personal reasons. Teacher and coach Carlos Ramirez resigned to accept a new job.
Liliana Reyes has taken a new job and will be leaving her aide position at Travis Primary. Carla Buck will replace Jennifer Virgil as special education teacher at SSHS. Martha Campos, formerly a grade four SLAR and science teacher at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, will move to a newly-created fifth grade SLAR/science teacher on that campus; this is a new position created due to enrollment numbers.
Angela Grimes, who was a 504 coordinator at Sulphur Springs High School, will move to the Administration building to become the district communications coordinator Christina Plumlee, who was a SPED aide at Rowena Johnson Primary, will continue in the serve as a special eduaction role but will be moving to the SSHS campus to replace Emily Carnes, who resigned for personal reasons.
As of Tuesday, July 19, SSISD still had 27 open positions.
During the last three months, SSISD trustees accepted 71 resignations, and approved administrators’ recommendations of 68 new employees and 58 personnel changes.
