Man arrested after chase

Menietto Crawford, 40, of Memphis, Tenn. was arrested Tuesday 10:46 p.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount between four and 200 grams, evading arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of between four ounces and five pounds of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair.

Hopkins County deputies reportedly observed Crawford’s vehicle committing a traffic offense near the 142 mile marker of IH-30.

The deputies initiated their emergency lights and sirens which Crawford reportedly disregarded and continued traveling west at speeds over 100 mph.

As Crawford and the deputies approached the Country Club overpass, one deputy observed Crawford allegedly throwing a green backpack out of the driver’s side window into the center median.

Crawford then continued traveling west bound and took the 125 exit pulling not he right shoulder of the 100 block of East Industrial Drive.

Deputies conducted a high risk take down and placed Crawford into custody without incident.

Crawford was read his rights and reportedly admitted to throwing the backpack.

When questioned about the contents, Crawford allegedly admitted to a couple of ounces of marijuana being in the backpack.

Crawford was transported to the jail by Officer Rosamond from the Sulphur Springs Police Department while Deputy Davis and Sergeant Steward went to retrieve the backpack.

Due to the admitted contraband being in the backpack, deputies conducted a probable cause search locating a plastic bag containing individual baggies of suspected marijuana weighing 15.591 ounces.

Also located inside the bag were three clear baggies containing suspected cocaine. Two of the bag field tested positive for cocaine using a field-testing kit and all three bags had combined weight of 37.4 grams.

Crawford was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on the above charges without incident. Bond was set at $82,000.
