A Cumby man was accused of assaulting his spouse in the face, head and arms using a large piece of wood, vacuum cleaner attachments, belts and a room handle.

Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office Deputies Zack Horne and Richard Brantley were dispatched to the couple’s County Road 4128 residence around 9:50 a.m. Feb. 22, 2023, where an assault was alleged to have occurred. While en route, deputies were told the alleged one party involved had left the residence and was seeking help.

Upon arrival at the location where that individual had gone, deputies noted injuries were visible on the woman’s face, head and arms. They were shown other less immediately visible injuries alleged to have been sustained during the assault as well. Due to the nature of the woman’s injuries, deputies requested EMS to respond at the address. Deputies photographed the injuries while awaiting EMS.

Deputies were told the woman’s spouse, 38-yearold William Shawn Bloyed of Cumby, assaulted her. He allegedly became upset around 6 p.m. the night before and accused his wife of adultery, then lost control and began tearing up the house. Bloyed then reportedly became even more enraged when his wife didn’t clean up his mess fast enough to suit him and began striking her all over her body with his hands and feet, as well as other objects in the home. He was accused of striking her multiple times with a large piece of wood, vacuum cleaner attachments, belts and a broom handle. The woman reportedly left after her spouse went to sleep, according to arrest reports. The woman was reported transpired to the hospital by EMS for further medical evaluation of her injuries, deputies alleged in arrest reports.

Deputies were admitted to the residence, where they found Bloyed asleep on the couch. He was secured in handcuffs and taken to jail. He agreed to talk to deputies and to allow them to search the home for any physical evidence of an assault.

Bloyed was transported to the county jail, where he was booked in at 3:19 p.m. Feb. 22 on an aggravated assault of a family or household member with a deadly weapon, aggravated kidnapping and family violence assault impeding breathing or circulation. At 6:18 p.m., Bloyed was served with four felony warrants for one assault family violence with a previous conviction charge, two aggravated kidnapping charges and one aggravated sexual assault charge, according to arrest reports.

Bloyed remained in Hopkins County jail Friday morning, Feb. 24, in lieu of $2.8 million in bonds set on the charge — $150,000 each on the assault impeding breathing charge and assault causing bodily injury warrant; and at $500,000 each on the rest of the charges, according to jail reports.
