Dozens of volunteers at Lowe’s distribution centers in Mount Vernon, Texas and Statesville, N. C., assembled 20,000 buckets with hurricane relief supplies last week during the company’s fifth annual bucket brigade.

The buckets included sanitizer, scrub brushes, bleach, work gloves, water and other essentials to help communities recover after a hurricane. Each center assembled 10,000 buckets, enabling the company to pre-stage the supplies that can be quickly shipped to local stores after a hurricane.

The buckets are distributed for free to residents affected by storms.

Experts have raised their predictions for an above-average hurricane season, saying the coast could see even more tropical storms and hurricanes than originally forecasted.

Last year, Lowe’s associates passed out 15,000 buckets at store relief events in more than a dozen states.

“This event shows our commitment to our ultimate goal. We sell product, but the reality is we are here to serve the community,” said Robbie Tigert, operations manager at the regional distribution center in Mount Vernon. “The distribution centers are here to serve the stores, and the stores are there to serve the community. The longterm goals and our job is to serve the communities and be there available for them.”
