Body

CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Sulphur Springs, with the support of the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation opened the women’s center in May 2020 – the “Ruth & Jack Gillis Women’s Center.” Sisters Judy Gillis and Janet Jordan made an incredible contribution to the Health Care Foundation to name this center after their beloved parents. The facility is a one-stop-shop for women for their radiological needs using state-of-the-art equipment such as:

• Brand new Hologic 3-D Mammography machine with needle biopsy, including screening and diagnostic mammograms

• Bone Density

• Ultrasound, including screening and diagnostic procedures

The hospital has an Interventional Radiologist onsite every Tuesday, who is able to perform various minimally invasive procedures using medical imaging guidance.

Benefits of the new Ruth & Jack Gillis Women’s Center with 3-D Mammography include:

• A high-quality experience close to home

• Improved ability to screen and detect potential breast cancer using brand new, advanced technology

• Fewer false positives; reduces concerning call backs requiring wait times and further testing.

During the month of October, 2021 the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation received a grant to offer “free mammogram” screenings for those women in our community who did not have health insurance. This year they were able to offer this special free screening to 40 ladies from the community. Each patient received a gift bag related to breast cancer awareness and a pink rose by Fox and Fig.

“This was truly a blessing for me,” wrote patient Terry Ann Wright. “I am without insurance at this time and was six months over due for my screening. This was perfect timing!”

“This program is huge to our community due to the rise in healthcare costs and gap in service due to the pandemic,” another patient Dawn Elmore wrote. “Thank you all so much for the blessings from this program.”

The hospital always offers special cash pricing for those ladies in the community who do not have health insurance to cover their yearly screening mammograms. Please reach out to the staff at 903-438-4325 for the cash pricing.

The CHRISTUS team is excited to serve the women of Hopkins County and encourages all women to schedule your yearly mammogram screening.

All women should begin regular screening mammograms at age 40, or younger if they have a family history of breast cancer. To schedule your annual mammogram in Sulphur Springs, talk to your doctor, or call 903-438-4325.
