The Sulphur Springs school board met Monday to hear a report on the performance of the Bilingual ESL program for the 2020-2021 school year among other items.

The program currently has 619 students enrolled in the Dual Language program. Craig Toney, the director of the program shared that all students are performing well and he has hopes to expand the program to fourth graders next year.

Other business included reviewing progress monitoring goals with superintendent Micael Lamb sharing that most students were performing well and meeting expectations, but he hopes to improve the numbers by the end of the year.

“There is evidence of us having to catch up,” Lamb said. “These kids did sit out and do virtual for a year and a half. We need to be doing other things to get us to these major goals.”

The board then approved a routine annual agreement between Sulphur Springs Country Club and Sulphur Springs ISD for use of the golf course by the two school teams for the 2021-2022 school year.

The board then convened into executive session to approve a retirement of the Sulphur Springs Middle School Principal and the resignation of a Title III aide at Travis Primary.
