At 11:57 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 2300 for a disturbance. Communications lost connection with the caller, but were able to re-establish connection. The caller stated her boyfriend shot at her. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the caller, who advised her boyfriend had shot at her with a shotgun, and he was last seen at the entrance to the shop building.

Deputies searched a pickup parked under the shop entrance door and the living quarters of the shop, but were unable to locate Kellen Warren Tramel, age 40. They located a spent shotgun shell near the entrance to the shop building where the victim alleged Tramel had shot at her from. Tramel denied having access to a firearm or that a firearm was located within the shop building. He provided deputies consent to search the shop building. Deputies located a shotgun beneath the back seat of the pickup parked in the shop building.

Tramel was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, due to being in possession of a firearm after a felony conviction and before the fifth anniversary of his release from confinement. Deputies obtained a search warrant to collect gunshot residue from Tramel’s hands.

Tramel was booked into the Hopkins County jail at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 on felony charges of aggravated assault of a date, family or household member with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. A 24hour hold and emergency protective order was also obtained.
