Traffic stop results in warrant arrest

Michael Bucher, 30, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at a truck stop on State Highway 19 at 10:55 a.m. Monday.

Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife Officer Tim King observed a black Ford Mustang enter the parking lot at an unsafe speed, and nearly collide with multiple vehicles. King ran the license plate, which was expired.

The Mustang then was driven out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed. King initiated a traffic stop. Bucher reportedly advised he had no driver’s license and no insurance. King ran Bucher’s driver’s license and found Bucher had three active Hopkins County warrants.

The Mustang’s passenger took possession of the vehicle and Bucher was transported to the Hopkins County jail on the outstanding charges.

Man accused of methamphetamine possession

Richard Otto Hall, Jr., 41, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Loop 301 at 9:28 p.m. Monday on a charge of possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1/1-B controlled substance.

Hall, driving a silver Nissan Frontier pickup, was stopped for a defective license plate, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office Deputy Isaac Foley alleged in police reports. During the stop, deputies reportedly observed Hall light the wrong end of a cigarette, display signs of nervousness and fail to maintain eye contact.

Hall consented to a search of his vehicle, and deputies located a baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Hall was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County jail. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 7.124 grams. The location of the stop was within approximately 683 feet of Paris Junior College, a drugfree zone, so the charge was enhanced.
