CP students compete at district SkillsUSA

All projects advance to state

Como-Pickton CISD students showed off their projects over the weekend, as they competed at the District 5 SkillsUSA conference in Waco, earning several blue ribbons and first places.

All projects advanced to state, earned a blue ribbon and scored a 90 or above.

Alayna Chapman and Maci Wright showed their tractor seat picnic table which also won a ribbon at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in January. Sydnee Neal displayed her succulent coffee table which had succulent plants built into the table’s middle. Bryce Perez and Dalton Morgan exhibited their chevron TV table, and the team of Leslie Galvan, Cindy Munoz and Steffanie Grimaldi showed their three wooden crosses table. Summer Gilbreath, Christian Gilbreath and Leslie Hernandez built an Aztec dining table.

Students also competed at the Leadership and Technical contest that weekend.

The Career Promotion Demonstration team of Grimaldi, Galvan and Wright won second place and will advance to state. Neal and Chapman participated in Prepared Public Speaking, and Neal walked away with first place to advance to state. Christian Gilbreath and Morgan landed first place in the Construction Material ID event, and Hernandez took home the gold in the Construction Tool ID event. Munoz and Summer Gilbreath competed in extemporaneous speaking, and Perez participated in the Job Interview event.

The 2020 Texas SkillsUSA conference will be held April 2-5 in Corpus Christi.
