Marlene’s Sass and Class and the Downtown Business Association are teaming up this year to put on the annual Christmas Market on Main Street next weekend, bringing around 50 vendors from near and far to the Sulphur Springs square Dec. 4.

“We have all kinds of people that will be here,” Marlene DeYong, sponsor and owner of Marlene’s Sass and Class said. “From baked goods to hot chocolate to cocoa bombs to iced cookies.”

It is the seventh year of the market, which was started by a few downtown businesses and then eventually picked up by DeYong. It has always been held on the first Saturday of December, and this is the first year the DBA has sponsored the event.

“It’s just a unique day to come and enjoy the experience of downtown Sulphur Springs with the businesses that already here plus the extra vendors here,” DeYong said. “It happens the day after the Christmas Parade [on Dec. 4], so it’s an added festivity that goes on that weekend.”

DeYong’s own shop will be marketing their own selection of clothing and accessories, and other local businesses like Babe, Head 2 Toe Nutrition, Buff City Soaps, Suzy Q’s and VR Social will have stalls at the Christmas Market.

“It’s the spirit it creates with all the extra things we offer during that day,” DeYong said.

Other stalls include Main Street Theatre that will be promoting the local theatre and showing memorabilia. The Sulphur Springs Blue Blazes will also be doing face painting and handing hot chocolate.

The market will open at 9 a.m. and last until 4 p.m., and stalls will mostly line Main Street with some wrapping around to Gilmer until Tomlinson.
