C-P students earn first place team, 10 individual awards

Como-Pickton High School earned at least one first place team award and 10 individual medals at district competition, advancing at least six students to the UIL Academic Regional contest to be held April 21-22 at Grayson College in Denison. At least three students qualified for region in two events each.

CPHS competitors easily swept the competition, taking the top three places in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and earning first place team honors.

The team consisted of Boston Peeks, Dylan Shumate and Troy Menser. Shumate won first, Menser second and Peeks third in L-D Debate.

Mattison Buster won second place honors in both science and current events competition, advancing her to region.

Dana Baxley earned first place honors in feature writing and second place honors in copy editing.

Kevin Hernandez won second place honors in news writing and third in feature writing.

Claire Jalufka won third place honors in persuasive speaking.
